Watchmen on the Louisiana Wall...

Watchmen on the Louisiana Wall...

I was thrilled to see an auditorium full of pastors this morning in Baton Rouge for Louisiana Family Forum's (LFF) annual statewide pastors briefing. Gene Mills, who I brought on to lead the organization shortly after I helped launch it in 1998, has done a tremendous job in shaping public policy in Louisiana. When we started 20 years ago, it was difficult to sustain the presence of pastors in the political and policy realm beyond the issue of abortion. Today, they not only have a sustained presence, they have a shaping presence.

As I told them this morning, we stand at a propitious moment in history. We have a chance to shine light into the darkness, to bring hope to the hopelessness -- but we must be willing to stand for truth, even when it's not comfortable. I reminded them that the election of 2016 was not the end of our responsibility as Christian leaders, but the beginning of an opportunity. I encouraged them not to be afraid of those who criticize them for supporting what Donald Trump has done as president. We can endorse his policy performance as president without endorsing his past behavior. Most importantly, we cannot miss this opportunity to revive our fundamental freedoms.

Speaking of pastors, FRC is inviting yours to our annual Watchmen on the Wall conference in Washington, D.C. From May 23-25, we'll mark 15 years of equipping pastors to engage the culture. And given what we believe is a reprieve from God for our nation, the theme of this special year is "While it is day..." Right out of the gates on Wednesday, we offer a tour and welcome reception at the Museum of the Bible, training by American Majority, lobbying on Capitol Hill, and a Spiritual Heritage Tour of the U.S. Capitol. Our guests will have an opportunity to hear from a wide array of speakers including Kay Arthur, David Barton, Michele Bachmann, the Benham Brothers, Pastor Jim Garlow, Reps. Tim Wahlberg (R-Mich.) and Mark Walker (R-N.C.) Bishop Harry Jackson, Dr. Alex McFarland, Bishop Harry Jackson, Fox News's Todd Starnes, and many more. For a complete list of activities or to register, visit the website. You won't want to miss this special briefing!
