Understanding Born-Alive by Heart

Understanding Born-Alive by Heart

Tony Perkins

"I am one of those children that our culture is talking about." --Melissa Ohden, abortion survivor

Imagine growing up knowing that your own grandmother wanted you to die. When Melissa survived her abortion, it wasn't her family who fought for her to live. It was one nurse, who defied her grandmother's orders and rushed a baby in respiratory failure down the hospital hall -- to help. She just couldn't leave a tiny newborn there to die. So how is it, Melissa wants to know, that an entire political party can?

Watching House Democrats block a bill that would give infants like her help has been painful, she told me on Tuesday's "Washington Watch." "Every child," Melissa insists, "deserves the same opportunity I was given." Instead, conservatives like Rep. Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), who happens to have delivered more than 5,000 babies, says he has to fight harder in the halls of Congress to protect babies than he did as an obstetrician.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and company will say that cases like Melissa's don't exist. But a courtroom showdown on the opposite side of the country ought to put that lie to rest. In a criminal suit targeting David Daleiden, who did the country a great service by exposing undercover video of the sale of baby body parts, abortion activists are trying to paint him as the villain. But, based on testimony, it's clear who the real monsters are.

Tom Brejcha, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Society, joined me on radio to talk about some of the explosive revelations-- including the fact that StemExpress, one of the biggest brokers of baby organs, was selling beating hearts. And David Daleiden is the one being charged with 15 felonies?

This entire case, Tom told me, is a diversion.

"[It's] all aimed at keeping the truth from the people -- the citizens of our country -- who needs to hear the truth that this happens regularly. Researchers testified -- get this -- that regularly, babies are expelled from the womb with hearts beating. 'It happens often,' she said. And when confronted with that, [the StemExpress CEO said] she had never seen that happen. And yet, asked about what the company was doing, she had to admit, 'Yes....' There is a procedure... where a heart is preserved for study, for transplantation. A beating heart is excised and... put in a solution to keep the heart beating outside the body. Now if the heart is beating outside of the body with a view toward ending the life of that infant -- and it's not a transplantation -- that's a clear-cut case of homicide."

It's no wonder the pro-abortion community is coming after David. They know these videos could unravel everything for them by pulling back the curtain on what the abortion industry is really all about. And, as Tom said, "I think the more they come after us, the most likely they are to find the truth coming out -- despite their efforts at suppression." When it does, he went on, "I hope that the country is ready to act."

You can act right now! Join FRC in our End Birth Day Abortion campaign and send a newborn baby hat to Nancy Pelosi. Let it be a reminder that there are thousands of children who'll never have one -- unless she and the rest of her party act.
