Miguel Cardona - Secretary of Education
Cardona has been a lifelong educator who has decades of experience as a public school educator. He was appointed as Commissioner of Education of Connecticut in 2019 after serving as superintendent of his local school district. Cardona was confirmed as the Secretary of Education on March 1, 2021 by a vote of 64-33.
Views on Abortion:
- Having spent most of his career as a public school educator, his public positions on abortion are not widely known.
Views on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity:
- His nomination has been praised by LGBT groups who claim that “Cardona has demonstrated a clear understanding of the systemic inequities that make our education system inaccessible to many students” (See link)

When asked about whether or not biologically male students should be allowed to play sports against biologically female students, Cardona said, “I think it is important for all students, including those that are transgender, [to be] afforded all of the opportunities they have” (See link)
