Tony Perkins to Join Gov. Huckabee at '##ImWithKim Liberty Rally' Calling for Release and Accommodation of Kim Davis
Grayson, Kentucky – On Tuesday, September 8, 2015, Family Research Council Action President Tony Perkins will join Governor Mike Huckabee and other Christian leaders at a rally in support of Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis who was jailed because she declined to issue same-sex marriage licenses due to her biblical beliefs.
The rally will call for her immediate release and urge Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear to convene a special session to accommodate county clerks who hold to the biblical definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman. This natural definition of marriage was upheld at the ballot box by three-quarters of Kentucky voters.
“Apparently Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is more concerned with imposing a moral and personal burden on Kim Davis than he is with accommodating her deeply-held Christian convictions,” said Family Research Council Action President Tony Perkins. “So, he is keeping her in jail. This is wrong.”
“We jail criminals, not people of conscience. We penalize wrong-doers, not people who simply decline a service for moral reasons -- a service which is readily available in other places. On Tuesday, we will stand with Kim Davis and her freedom to live and work according to her beliefs,” concluded Perkins.
