U.S. Senate Rejects Far Left, Unqualified Federal Judicial Nominee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Family Research Council Action (FRC Action) President Tony Perkins praised the U.S. Senate today for rejecting the nomination of Goodwin Liu to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Perkins made the following comments on the U.S. Senate's first rejection of a judicial nominee offered by President Obama:

"Today, the U.S. Senate rejected an unqualified, anti-Constitution nominee to the Ninth Circuit Court - one step removed from the highest court in the land. This represents a huge setback for the Obama administration's effort to put a permanent, liberal stamp on the court.

"This is a nominee who called for a filibuster against judicial nominees who rely on the text of the Constitution. Goodwin Liu may not believe the U.S. Constitution is binding, but certainly thinks foreign law is. At one point he said it was 'difficult to grasp' why international authority could not be imposed on U.S. soil.

"Goodwin Liu's lack of experience and troubling ideas of justice offer a compelling basis for the Senate to block a nomination that is without a doubt an 'extraordinary circumstance.' If there were ever a time to draw the line on judicial activism, this was it," concluded Perkins.
